Interpretation of Brief

We were given a spectacular site with plenty of possible positions for the house.  Very early on the house location became clear with sighting for the most impressive views of Kapiti, down to the South Island and North to Mt Taranaki.

Extensive earthworks were required to create a building platform
The house is positioned to capture the best sun and views.
The garage has been located 1.5 metres below the house level, this was imperative to ensure the parking and driveway were on a gently gradient while keeping the garage structure concealed to the southern corner of the house.
The elegant curved ramp serves everyday access to the garage while providing a stunning space for displaying artworks.  Five steps access the less used entrance way.

The house is in essence one room wide, long and low lying to snugly fit into it’s surroundings.

Every room has a spectacular view with access of the curved foyer
With the use of cedar and zinc cladding the house will age gracefully without the need for high maintenance.

A large roof overhang to the North and a spacious courtyard to the east provides generous outdoor living spaces

The outdoor fire and covered area allows entertaining in all seasons
Open plan living area with a gourmet kitchen is the heart of the house
